Presidential Report November 19, 2002Congratulations Congratulations are in order for our Phi Theta Kappa students who competed in the Regional Convention in Jacksonville this past weekend and captured five awards: Most Distinguished Chapter; Five Star Chapter; Honorable Mention for Most Outstanding Chapter President, Keri Williamson; and Individual Awards in Poetry and Art, Nicole Terpening. Many thanks to Ruth Reis, Chapter Advisor. On November 9, our music students competed at Rollins College before the National Association of Teachers of Singers. I am happy to report that, according to Dr. Bedell, SCC had a "sweep." Since our students were competing against junior and senior level students, this kind of a sweep by a community college "is, for all practical purposes, unheard of" according to Dr. Bedell. We took one First Place, two Second Place, and one Third Place awards. Also, our Choir will be leaving for Vienna shortly - 80 strong. Congratulations to Elnora Gilchrist and Beth Larson for their reappointment to the Region III Professional Development Advisory Council (RPDAC). This group identifies and coordinates professional development activities for adult educators and administrators through partnerships with educational institutions, business/industry and community-based organizations. PeopleSoft I would like to thank the Board for allowing the College to capitalize on the PeopleSoft end-of-the-year discounts. Based on a phone call from Rick Lee, I was able to contact each of you over the holidays and we proceeded with the purchase. The formal acceptance is in your packet tonight.
