Presidential Report September 1, 2001

KUDOS

Beth Larson has been selected by the Florida Department of Education Adult Education Division to participate in the Adult Education National Symposium on Research and Practices for Teaching English as a Second Language. The symposium will be held at the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C. Beth will be one of four TESOL Adult Education practitioners representing Florida. A highlight of the symposium will be a Tele-conference with ESL practitioners in East Africa. Congratulations, Beth!

ENROLLMENT GROWTH

Seminole Community College ranked fourth among the 28 community colleges whose enrollment and FTE significantly increased this fall. The system appears to have gained approximately 10% this fall.

LYNX BUS SERVICE

SCC has been working with the County and Lynx to expand the Lynx service to include the Oviedo Campus. The County is also attempting to get the cities to participate financially in the service. At the request of the county, SCC will be hosting a meeting of the City Mayors and Managers on our campus this Thursday.

PERFORMANCE-BASED PAY

We are currently researching Performance Based Pay systems that are used in educational institutions and plan to have a Board workshop in November to outline a multi-year plan to incorporate this into our culture.

FACC ANNUAL CONVENTION

The FACC Annual Convention is scheduled for October 24-26 in Ft. Lauderdale. The Trustee events will all be held on Thursday, October 25, ending in the Presidential Gala that evening. So far, Verdell has indicated her interest in attending the Thursday session. Please advise Linda if anyone else wishes to attend.

ACCT ANNUAL CONVENTION

All of the Trustees, except Mr. Lee, are scheduled to attend the ACCT Annual Convention on October 10-13 in San Diego, California.
