Please join us in congratulating these colleagues who were recognized during the Sept. 17 Collegewide Convocation:
Convocation Materials Online
Employees are invited to view several of the 2013 Convocation components online. At the Convocation page, you will find links to “Applause, Applause” as well as “In Memoriam.” Also, the “Go State. Go Far.” video shown during Convocation has been posted on YouTube, and some of the photos from that morning’s gathering in the Gym are on Seminole State’s Flickr page.
Many thanks to all of the presenters and facilitators during last month’s Convocation. Most of the 30 workshops were filled to capacity, which indicates that Seminole State employees are extremely interested in more personal and professional development. With that in mind, please take a moment to complete a brief online survey. Your feedback is very important as we look ahead to next year’s Convocation.

Student Services Open This Friday
The Student Affairs Professional Development Day originally slated for this Friday, Oct. 4, will be rescheduled. In light of changes in some of the major training sessions – such as Development Education Legislation – as well as our goal to be readily available to serve our students, Student Affairs offices at all sites will be open for normal student services this Friday, Oct. 4 from 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
Comprehensive Review Next Week
Each year, the Office of Equity and Civil Rights Compliance for the Florida College System conducts a Civil Rights Compliance Review at two or three of our 28 colleges. These comprehensive reviews involve an in-depth examination of each college’s facilities, policies and procedures, student programs and activities, employment practices and other documents with regards to compliance with Federal and State civil rights laws. These reviews also afford those colleges selected the opportunity to review their policies and procedures pertaining to civil rights compliance. Because it has been 26 years since Seminole State was selected for this process, our College will be participating in the 2013 process beginning Monday, Oct. 7 and running through Friday, Oct. 11. As part of the review process, Lynda Earls, director of equity and civil rights compliance for our system, will be interviewing previously identified Seminole State constituents in order to compile a formal assessment, which she will share with Seminole State several months after next week’s visit.
Remembering Alan Kraft
All employees are invited to join a gathering on Wednesday, Oct. 16, at 3 p.m. at the Center for Public Safety as the College dedicates a tree in memory of our late colleague, Professor Alan Kraft. As the program manager and full time faculty member of the Criminal Justice Associate in Science program, Alan touched many lives in a positive way. Members of Alan’s family will be present, and they have indicated that they are looking forward to visiting with Alan’s friends and acquaintances.
