Student Affairs Redesign at Sanford/Lake Mary We are now just several weeks away from the many moves and temporary staff locations associated with the major Student Affairs redesign project on the Sanford/Lake Mary Campus. All College employees should be aware that the entire Student Affairs building (building A) on the Sanford/Lake Mary Campus will be vacated and closed for renovations from Jan. 25 through Spring Break. Also, thank you in advance for your support in helping to communicate this temporary closure to students when it occurs. In the meantime, the chart in the link below indicates the current, interim, and permanent future locations of each of the Student Affairs constituents affected by this project. This major renovation project is expected to be completed by the end of February, when Student Affairs employees will begin to occupy their new work spaces. Then, students will begin utilizing the newly renovated A Building on March 11 when the College reopens after Spring Break. Please look for more details and additional communications about this project in the weeks ahead. Campus Safety In the aftermath of the Connecticut elementary school tragedy, Seminole State’s Emergency Response Team (ERT) continues to examine and evaluate College operations in an open-campus environment, which provides open access for students to come and go freely as they pursue their studies. As a reminder, this past year, the ERT developed the Active Shooter Training sessions for all employees to attend. Additionally, the ERT is now exploring options to provide similar sessions to students in 2013. As always, Seminole State employees are urged to immediately contact Seminole State Security or local law enforcement to report any suspicious activity that causes any concern for safety. 2012 Non-Instructional Employee Appraisals All full-time and regular part-time non-instructional employees should be participating in the annual appraisal process – which is based on the calendar year 2012. As you know, the successful Pay for Performance Pilot Program implemented in the first half of 2012 was fully embraced by our Board of Trustees, and now they have asked us to continue the momentum of utilizing “pay for performance” on into 2013.Therefore, we plan to recommend to the Board that any non-instructional compensation adjustments for the upcoming 2013-14 fiscal year be based on an employee’s 2012 Annual Performance Appraisal. So it is especially important to follow each step of the appraisal process:
If you have any questions, please contact Anita Simpson, associate director of employee engagement, or Bill Fowler, training manager. Beverage Vending Machines The College’s agreement with Coca-Cola to supply beverage vending machines throughout Seminole State ended Dec. 31, and the College is currently working on bidding beverage vending. Please note: While this bidding process takes place, we are now on a month-to-month agreement with Coca-Cola and their vending rates on the beverage machines are now $1.50. It is possible that the College may contract again with Coca-Cola once the negotiation process concludes, but it is also possible that another beverage vendor may be selected. |
