2012 Updates

First Wednesday Update: May 3, 2012

Summer Work Hours Begin

Next week, the College will begin the summer four-day class and work weeks. This summer schedule will continue through Friday, July 27, 2012. Complete details on work week schedules at Seminole State during the summer months are available here.

Athletics State Championships

Seminole State’s softball and women’s golf teams made history last weekend, bringing home their first-ever state championships. Both teams now move on to compete for a national championship. The women’s golf team, now ranked No. 3, will compete in the NJCAA National Tournament in Daytona Beach May 14-17. The softball team will travel to St. George, Utah, to play for a national title May 17-19. Congratulations to Softball Coach Courtney Miller, Golf Coach Christa Teno and both teams for their hard work and amazing achievements!

Mini Grants Spring Awards – Applications Requested

All full-time faculty and staff are invited to apply for the annual Mini-Grant Program of the Foundation for Seminole State College. The maximum award for an individual grant is $2,000. Grants are awarded by a committee composed of members of the Foundation Board of Directors. Deadline for grant submission is 4 p.m. on Thursday, May 10. More information about the Mini-Grant Program can be found here, and you may download an application by clicking here. Please review those documents carefully before applying. For additional information, please contact the Foundation at 407.708.2429.

College Phone Numbers

The answering of phone calls about Admissions, Enrollment Services and Financial Aid at Seminole State is being outsourced to a third party that is better equipped to handle the large number of telephone inquiries. Based on a collaborative assessment conducted by Student Affairs, College Relations and Marketing, and CTS, the following changes have taken place:

  • The number 407.708.4722 has been re-established as the main number for the College.
  • Because there is now an associated cost to calling phone numbers 407.708.2050 or 407.708.2045, these numbers should NOT be called or transferred to unless there are legitimate Admissions, Enrollment Services or Financial Aid issues.
  • Please use the Employee Directory or Departmental Directory page to locate unknown numbers for employees/departments.
  • Callers to the following numbers will hear the same menu:
    • 407.708.4722, the main number for the College
    • 407.708.4400, the main number for the Heathrow Campus
    • 407.404.6000, the main number for the Altamonte Springs Campus
    • 407.971.5000, the main number for the Oviedo Campus
    • 407.708.2050, the number for Admissions, Registration and Records
    • 407.708.2045, the number for Financial Aid
  • Additional menus have been established for Nursing and Healthcare and Academic Foundations, which are accessible from the main menu.
  • Efforts are under way to update Web pages and utilize other strategies to reduce call volume and direct callers to posted information.
