Memorial for Art Grindle

Seminole State will host a memorial service on Friday, July 20, for Art Grindle. “The Art and Phyllis Grindle Celebration of Life” will begin at 2 p.m. in the Sanford/Lake Mary Concert Hall to honor the legacy of Mr. Grindle and his wife, Phyllis, who died in 2004. Mr. Grindle, 89, passed away on June 10, and will be remembered by Seminole State students and employees for the legacy he left the College. A steadfast supporter for over three decades, Mr. Grindle helped co-found the Dream Gala in 1984 and named the Art & Phyllis Grindle Honors Institute in 2006. The Grindle family has established an endowed scholarship for Honors students. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the scholarship in care of the Foundation for Seminole State College. For more information on Mr. Grindle and his contributions to our community and Seminole State students, please see

December 2012 Graduation

The College is preparing to move our Winter and Spring Commencement ceremonies to UCF in order to accommodate the growing number of graduates and as many friends/family members as our graduates wish to attend. Therefore, all faculty/staff are invited to share suggestions about what you feel might make our Commencement ceremony more meaningful for both you and our students. Please send any ideas or suggestions to both Laura Ross and Marcia Roman, who are helping to lead the transformation of Seminole State’s graduation ceremony. In the mean time, please note that Sunday, December 16 will be our first graduation ceremony at UCF – it is the only available date for the UCF Arena due to UCF graduations and basketball schedules. Because holding Commencement on a Sunday may present some unusual issues, we are in the process of sorting out scheduling/work-related details and expect to have more information available by the beginning of the Fall Term.

  • Pay for Performance Program: The 2012 program’s award selection process is under way with final decisions by the Executive Team scheduled for late June.
  • VPAA Search: Information shared; the VPAA Search Committee is still in the process of interviewing candidates suggested by the College’s search firm, Hockaday-Hunter & Associates.
