First Wednesday Update: Sept. 7, 2011Sept. 27 ConvocationPlease mark your calendar. Every Seminole State faculty and staff member is invited to our annual Collegewide Convocation, to be held Tuesday, Sept. 27, on the Sanford/Lake Mary Campus. All College sites and offices will be closed to students for the entire day and evening. Here is the agenda for the day:
The afternoon workshop sessions are something new this year. All employees are encouraged to attend as many sessions as possible. Please look over the attached preliminary schedule to begin planning your Sept. 27 afternoon. You'll see that there are a number of different sessions on varying topics offered in 45-minute intervals throughout the afternoon. Look for more complete details on these sessions in this week's HR Update email. All sessions have been developed in concert with the Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning as well as the Career Service Employees Council and the Professional Employees Council. Many thanks to these groups, the presenters and our Human Resources Department for working together to craft this special afternoon of professional development opportunities for all Seminole State employees. Pathfinder Nominations Due This FridayNow through this Friday, Sept. 9, nominations are being accepted for our College's 2011 Pathfinder Awards. A $2,000 Pathfinder Award is given annually to recognize one Seminole State employee, and a $2,000 Pathfinder Award is given annually to one Seminole State department that has demonstrated exemplary service to our College over the last year or so. Any full-time faculty/staff member employed more than one year may be nominated for this award. To nominate an individual or a department, please submit the name of the individual or department, together with the reasons for the nomination (in less than 500 words), to Yolanda Williams via email. The 2011 Pathfinder Awards Selection Committee will then meet to select the individual and department to be honored in a surprise announcement during the Collegewide Convocation celebration on Sept. 27. Flu Shots For Seminole State EmployeesBlue Cross Blue Shield of Florida (BCBSFL) has added the flu vaccine coverage as a standard pharmacy benefit for Seminole State College and all other colleges participating in the Florida College System Risk Management Consortium. Therefore, flu vaccinations are now available at participating BCBSFL retail pharmacies for a $0 co-pay for all employees enrolled in the PPO or HMO plan. (Please note: Since the flu shots are being administered at no charge at a pharmacy, there will not be a flu vaccination booth at the annual Health Fair scheduled for Seminole State employees in October.) There are many participating pharmacies in Seminole County, including Walgreens, CVS, Walmart, Sam's Club, Winn-Dixie, Publix, Target and many more. To arrange for your flu shot, please check online at www.BCBSFL.com, find a provider and click pharmacy for the participating pharmacy nearest to you. Additional information will be available in this week's September HR Update email. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact Britt Kintner, Lynette Cumming or Barbara Dodgion in the HR office. CAC RecapLast week, the first College Advisory Council (CAC) meeting of the 2011-12 academic year took place, with leaders from the Faculty Senate, the CSEC, the PEC, SGA and other areas of the College meeting with the Executive Team to exchange information and ideas. Here is a brief recap of the discussion regarding each agenda item from the Aug. 30 meeting:
Please feel free to contact your representative on the CAC if you have a suggestion for a future CAC agenda item. Fall 2011 Parking EnforcementThe grace period for implementing the new parking policies on all Seminole State campuses has now lapsed. Therefore, tickets will begin to be issued this week to students parking in non-student areas such as Faculty/Staff and Visitor parking. Also, tickets will begin to be issued to College employees who park in Visitor parking. Please refer to the parking website to ensure that you are adhering to the new parking policies. Microsoft Implementation UpdateAs the College continues to migrate its systems from a Novell-based infrastructure to a 100 percent Microsoft environment, several changes are unfolding in September. First, the Novell login screen is being removed from all computers. This task will be completed by Thursday, Sept. 8. Please contact the HelpDesk if you still have a Novell login screen after Sept. 8. Secondly, the installation of the System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) client should be completed by Sept. 16. Additional changes are scheduled to continue throughout the Fall Term and will be communicated to you as they approach. |
