First Wednesday Update: Oct. 5, 2011

Post-Convocation Survey

If you have not already done so, please participate in a quick online survey for employees who attended one or more of last Tuesday afternoon's Convocation workshops. The four-question survey is available on the Institutional Research website. Thank you to everyone who presented during or attended the afternoon workshops.

Foundation Mini-Grants Fall Awards

All full-time College faculty and staff are invited to apply for the annual Mini-Grant Program of the Foundation for Seminole State College. The maximum award for an individual grant is $2,000. Grants are awarded by a committee composed of members of the Presidents' Club Advisory Council and Foundation Board of Directors. The deadline for grant submission is 4 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 11. Attached is information for applying for a Fall 2011 Mini-Grant. Note: The application form has changed. Please review it carefully before applying. For additional information, please contact the Foundation at 407.708.2429.

Endowed Teaching Chair Nominations

All faculty and staff members are invited and encouraged to nominate any full-time faculty member for one of the Endowed Teaching Chair Awards, which will be officially bestowed at the conclusion of the 2012 Spring Term. You may nominate as many faculty members as you choose, and you are encouraged to nominate faculty members who may have been nominated in past years. Complete details are on the attached document. If you would like to nominate a faculty member, please take a few minutes to complete the short nomination form and submit it electronically on the Foundation website.

Health Fairs For Seminole State Employees

College employees can help Seminole State qualify for up to $10,000 by participating in our 2011 Health Fairs. If 50 percent or more of our full-time employees enrolled in the PPO and HMO insurance plans complete the Personal Health Assessment (PHA) during next week's Health Fairs, the College could receive up to $10,000 from our healthcare consortium to be used for an employee health and wellness initiative — such as a new Wellness Center. The PHA must be completed during the Health Fairs, which are scheduled for:

  • Monday Oct. 10, from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. at the Oviedo Campus (Room OVF-100)
  • Tuesday Oct. 11, from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. at the Altamonte Springs Campus (Room ALT-214)
  • Wednesday Oct. 12, from 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. at the Sanford/Lake Mary Campus (Gymnasium)

The PHA includes free employee health screenings for cholesterol, diabetes, blood pressure, etc. with immediate results.  The PHA will also provide tips on health-related topics such as nutrition, diet and fitness. Pre-registration for the PHA is strongly recommended. To register, visit the Health Fair sign-up page and follow the instructions. Pick the time and campus most convenient for you. Walk-ins will be assisted but may have to wait longer, depending on the number of employees pre-registered during that time slot.

Benefits Fairs for Seminole State Employees

The annual Benefits Fairs are also taking place next week. These fairs are a great source of information for making the most out of Seminole State College's benefits offerings. You can talk to the experts about your upcoming open enrollment and visit with 22 vendors from our medical, dental, health, vision, disability, insurance, retirement plans and more. Benefits Fairs dates and times are:

  • Wednesday, Oct. 12, from 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. at the Sanford/Lake Mary Campus (Gymnasium)
  • Thursday, Oct. 13, from 10:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. at the Oviedo Campus (Room OVF-100)
  • Friday, Oct. 14, from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. at the Altamonte Springs Campus (Room ALT-349)
