First Wednesday Update: Dec. 7, 2011

December Graduations

Five graduation ceremonies will be held over the next several days on the Sanford/Lake Mary Campus. The Fire Science/EMS Program will hold its Minimum Standards Certificate Ceremony this evening at 7 p. m. in the gymnasium. The graduating class of the Practical Nursing Program will hold a Pinning Ceremony on Thursday, Dec. 8, at 2 p.m. in the gymnasium. The GED Graduation will be held on Thursday, Dec. 8, at 7 p.m. in the gymnasium. The College Commencement ceremony will begin at 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 9 in the gymnasium. Finally, the Criminal Justice Graduation will take place on Monday, Dec. 12, at 7 p.m. in the gymnasium.

Now, the Endowed Teaching Chair Screening Committee is seeking the participation of all employees in the process by asking you to provide input about each of these nominees via a confidential survey available online now through Dec. 16 at http://www.seminolestate.edu/foundation/endowedchair/survey.php. The Screening Committee urges you to complete surveys for any faculty nominee, but especially to provide information regarding nominees within your own departments. These additional comments will greatly aid the Committee in recognizing the many ways our faculty members have distinguished themselves.

College Advisory Council Recap

Last week, the College Advisory Council (CAC) met for the monthly exchange of information and ideas between the Executive Team and leaders from the Faculty Senate, the CSEC, the PEC, the SGA, and other areas of the College. Here is a brief recap of the discussion regarding each agenda item from the Nov. 30 meeting:

Pay For Performance Update ... A new plan is being explored which would cover the time period of January - June 2012 for full-time non-instructional employees.  Complete details of the plan will be finalized, communicated to employees, and presented to the Board of Trustees in January.

United Way ... College employees will be invited to participate in a campaign for the Central Florida Heart of United Way in the spring of 2012.

Enrollment Update ... Information shared; enrollment for Spring 2012 is several percentage points behind enrollment at this same time last year.

Financial Aid Call Center ... Information shared; Student Affairs is broadening the College's ability to answer calls and offer individual attention to students regarding Financial Aid.

Wellness Center Update ... Information shared; an architect is being engaged by the College to begin the planning process in concert with the Task Force comprised of College faculty / staff.

Final Approval: Procedure 1.0900.14 Employee Benefits Committee … Information shared.

Final Approval: Procedure 3.0600 Accommodations for Students with Disabilities … Information shared.

Changes in Policy 1.140 Acceptable Use of College Information Technology … Information shared. 

2012 Convocation ... Sept. 25, 2012 will be a full "Learning Day" filled with workshops/session available for all faculty/staff. The day will begin with a Convocation breakfast in the gymnasium and the traditional presentation of employee awards.

Winter Break

Tuesday, Dec. 13, is the last faculty work day of the Fall 2011 Term and Wednesday, Dec. 21, is the last work day for most non-instructional Seminole State employees. On Tuesday, Jan. 3, all College offices will re-open and faculty will report for the Spring 2012 Term. Please remember to turn off all computers and office equipment before departing for the break. We wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season.
