2010 Updates

First Wednesday Update: June 2, 2010

Six Weeks Until Our SACS Visit

With the calendar turning to June, there are only six weeks remaining until the July 13-15 visit by the SACS Team for affirmation of our Level II Status to offer baccalaureate degrees.  The SACS Team's focus will be on all of Seminole State during their visit, not just the new Bachelor of Applied Science - Interior Design.  Therefore, during the coming weeks there will be increasing opportunities for faculty and staff members to become more aware of what the July SACS visit might entail for you and for our College.  Please look for -- and please participate in -- special "SACS Lunch and Learn" opportunities at each Campus, upcoming "Pre-Visit Q & A Sessions" at each Campus, and other information you will be receiving via Collegewide communications.  As we progress toward the July visit dates, it is important that every Seminole State employee becomes fully aware of and fully engaged with this upcoming SACS visit.

College Mission and Vision Statements

Our Seminole State Mission/Vision/Collegewide Goals statements have each been updated to reflect our new name, the expansion of our mission to include baccalaureate degrees, and the addition of our Core Values.  Attached you will find a copy of each of these new documents.  It is important that all out-of-date documents bearing our previous language and the old SCC logo be replaced in advance of the SACS visit in July.  Therefore, our Facilities department has arranged for an outside company to physically change out all framed statements in conference rooms on every Campus, and other prominent locations such as the Board Room.  However, there may be other outdated statements in other College areas ... so over the next several weeks, our College Events team will be contacting every department throughout the College to determine if there are any locations other than conference rooms that need updating.  The Events Team will then make arrangements to switch out the old statements with the new ones.  In the meantime, if you have any questions about this process, please contact our Events Coordinator, Charity Lo Giudice, at ext. 2440.

Hurricane Season Is Here

With yesterday's beginning of the 2010 hurricane season, all Seminole State faculty and staff are urged to sign up for emergency text messaging for weather-related bulletins from our College. In the event of weather emergencies / closures due to tropical weather, you will be notified by an emergency text message from Seminole State via "Alert Seminole" -- Seminole County's official instant messaging alert system.  Here's how to sign up:

  • Go online to https://www.alertseminole.org
  • Click the "Register" button
  • Complete the requested information ... including how you wish to be notified (select a phone for text messaging and / or email) and what you wish to be notified about (weather and / or other emergency)
  • Be sure to select Seminole State College as the group -- near the bottom of the page
  • Click "continue" to select additional options or to complete the enrollment process.

Important:  If you have already signed up, please revisit the Alert Seminole website and ensure that your email address is accurately listed as "seminolestate.edu" instead of the now-extinct "scc-fl.edu" address.  This will ensure continued receipt of emergency information via text messaging and email.  You can make any changes needed by editing both your "profile" and your email address listed under "devices."  You can even send a "Test Alert" to all your devices to make certain you are properly receiving messages.
