First Wednesday Update: January 6, 2010

Salary Increases

As part of the Mid-Year Salary Adjustment approved by the District Board of Trustees in October -- and thanks everyone's hard work and dedication in serving our growing college-credit enrollment -- Seminole State employees will receive the following compensation increases beginning with January paychecks:

  • Effective January 2010 for full-time and adjunct faculty:
    • A 2 percent increase to the midpoint of all pay ranges and subsequent adjustments to pay levels for all full-time faculty positions
    • A level advancement (step) within the pay range for qualified full-time faculty
    • A 2 percent increase in adjunct faculty pay rates
  • Effective January 2010 for non-instructional employees:
    • A 2 percent salary increase for non-instructional employees hired full-time before July 1, 2009
    • A longevity increase based upon your full-time hire date
    • A 2 percent pay rate increase for part-time non-instructional staff

Please refer to the detailed letter from HR that you received before the holidays that communicates your individual salary adjustments. THANK YOU again to everyone for your continued dedication and commitment to serving our growing number of students!

Sanford/Lake Mary Road Construction Completion

All construction on the roundabout, loop road and parking lots throughout the Sanford/Lake Mary Campus will be completed by the start of Spring Term classes next Monday, Jan. 11. A detailed map of the new parking lot configurations is now available on the College website at www.seminolestate.edu/media/maps/slm-map-spring2010.pdf.

College website Redesign

A major website redesign for Seminole State College has been in the works since the name change decision in September and should be implemented within the next week. More than 10,000 Web pages have had to be updated with the change in usage of "SCC" to "Seminole State College," along with other navigational changes. Once the redesigned website is unveiled it will continue to be refined and upgraded as new information and ideas arise. Please submit a TIM request to WebSupport with any issues regarding the new website design or content after implementation.

Emergency Notification Test

At 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 19th, Seminole State will test our Emergency Notification System for about 90 seconds at the College's four campuses.  Here's what you can expect:

  • You will hear an emergency sound emanating from all campus phones, followed by a brief test message.
  • If you are on the phone, your call will be placed on hold for the 90-second duration.
  • A text message will follow on your Cisco IP phone. Hit "Exit" to remove the text message.

The Emergency Response Team (ERT) will observe and learn from the results of this test. Additional reminders about this test will be sent to employees and students several days in advance.

Farewell To Matt Hodge

Please join us in extending best wishes to Executive Team member Matt Hodge, who next week will be joining the University of Florida -- his alma mater -- as Senior Director of Development for the UF College of Education.  Matt's primary responsibility will be leading the College of Education through UF's $1.5 billion capital campaign. He will also direct the College of Education's Office of Alumni and Development Affairs. Many thanks to Matt for his five years of leadership in the Foundation, helping to double its assets and assist countless numbers of our students. A goodbye celebration for Matt will be held this afternoon from 3-4 p.m. in the Sanford/Lake Mary Board Room (A-200), and all faculty and staff are invited to attend. Cake and punch will be served.
