Endowed Teaching Chair Feedback Requested

Since nominations for this year's Endowed Teaching Chair awards have been accepted, a screening committee will now create a comprehensive overview of each nominee based upon feedback from other faculty and staff. Please take a moment to provide your input about your colleagues via a Web survey. Visit www.seminolestate.edu/foundation/endowedchair/survey.php to sign in and begin completing the survey. The deadline for participation is Tuesday, Dec. 14, at 4:30 p.m. Please note that you can provide information for more than one nominee, but you are especially encouraged to complete surveys for faculty nominees within your own departments. This survey — based on the faculty "Professional Standards Guides" that have been created by Arts and Sciences and Career Programs faculty — contains 10 areas to comment about each nominee. It also includes a comment box at the conclusion of the survey, which is especially important to the committee in its decision-making process.

New Commercials

Another series of television commercials for Seminole State have been filmed and have begun airing on Central Florida's TV channels. Once again, the commercials feature actual Seminole State students who — in their own words — describe our talented faculty, our nurturing environment and the great educational experience at Seminole State College. Here are links to the latest two commercials:

Emergency Notification Tests

At 10 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 13, the College will once again test our Emergency Notification System for about 90 seconds at each of our four campuses. Here's what you can expect:

  • You will hear an emergency sound emanating from all campus phones, followed by a brief test message.
  • If you are on the phone, your call will be placed on hold for the 90-second duration.
  • A text message will follow on your Cisco IP Phone. Hit "Exit" to remove the text message.

Also at 10 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 13, we will conduct a simultaneous test of our Emergency Text Messaging capability via "Alert Seminole," which is in partnership with Seminole County's Emergency Operations Center. If you have not done so already, please sign up for this emergency text messaging capability that can be utilized in an emergency situation to communicate with Seminole State students, employees and interested community constituents.

Here's how to sign up:

  • Go online to www.alertseminole.org.
  • Click the "Register" button.
  • Complete the requested information, including how you wish to be notified (select a phone for text messaging) and what you wish to be notified about (weather and/or other emergencies).
  • Be sure to select Seminole State College as the group (near the bottom of the page).
  • Click "Continue" to select additional options or to complete the enrollment process.

Foundation Fundraiser to Assist Seminole State Students

To raise funds that will benefit Seminole State students, the Foundation is raffling off a 2011 Toyota Camry Hybrid that was graciously donated by the Central Florida Auto Dealers Association, Inc. One hundred percent of the proceeds from this raffle will benefit Seminole State student scholarships, faculty programs and areas of greatest need. In addition to purchasing a ticket to possibly win the Camry, all Seminole State employees are also encouraged to sell tickets to others. And, there are two winning incentives for employees to sell tickets:

  1. The faculty or staff member who sells the most raffle tickets will win his or her choice of either a $100 Visa gift card or a $250 scholarship that will be given to a Seminole State student in his or her name.
  2. For every 10 tickets that you sell, your name will be entered in a drawing to win dinner for two at Stonewood Grill and Tavern. (For example, an employee selling 30 tickets will be entered 3 times into the dinner drawing.)

Raffle tickets are $25 for one entry or $100 for five entries. They are available through the Foundation's Miranda Levy (ext. 2031) in A-204B on the Sanford/Lake Mary Campus. The drawing for the Camry will take place on Feb. 12, 2011, during the annual Dream Gala. Ticket holders do not need to be present to win. Please contact Miranda Levy if you have any questions or if you would like to purchase and/or sell raffle tickets.

Winter Break

Tuesday, Dec. 14, is the last faculty work day of the Fall 2010 Term, and Tuesday, Dec. 21, is the last work day for most non-instructional Seminole State employees. On Monday, Jan. 3, all College offices will reopen and faculty will report for the Spring 2011 Term. We wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season.
