First Wednesday Update: April 1, 200909-10 Budget UpdateFlorida's 2009-10 budget was approved last week by Governor Crist. Included in this budget are an 8% increase in tuition and a new technology fee for community college students, which should increase SCC's 09-10 revenues as discussed in last month's Open Forums. A piece of very good news for SCC is that the budget also includes $250,000 for us to begin planning next year for a new Student Services facility on the Sanford / Lake Mary Campus. Now that the Governor has approved the State's budget, we will move forward with presenting a 2009-10 budget for SCC to our Board of Trustees for their approval at their June 15 meeting. However, we are all cognizant that Florida's economy is still on unsure footing and that there continues to be talk of another Special Session being called in October or January. Please look for future updates in this monthly "First Wednesday" ... or, if developments warrant, in a special update from Dr. McGee. Employee "How Are We Doing" SurveySCC faculty and staff are invited to provide feedback regarding your experiences in working with departments and areas across the College via a new "How Are We Doing?" Survey. This survey is similar to one that SCC students have utilized to provide feedback on their experiences with the various areas of Student Success Services. However, this new "How Are We Doing" Survey is just for SCC employees, and is focused on obtaining feedback regarding the courtesy, responsiveness, competence, and collaboration of departments and areas throughout SCC. Your responses will be kept anonymous. This survey is available online at http://www.seminolestate.edu/ir/survey/oaes/oaes.php. Please feel free to participate in this survey now through early September and share any comments / concerns / suggestions that you might have for your fellow SCC employees. Results will be shared with the Vice Presidents and department leaders later this fall. Hurricane Season Is HereHurricane season began on Monday, June 1, and all SCC faculty and staff are urged to sign up for emergency text messaging for weather-related bulletins from Seminole Community College. In the event of weather emergencies / closures due to tropical weather, you will be notified by an emergency text message from SCC. This emergency messaging capability is a subset of Alert Seminole -- Seminole County's official instant messaging alert system. Here's how to sign up:
