2009 Updates

First Wednesday Update: December 2, 2009

$500 December Award

As part of the Mid-Year Salary Adjustment approved by the District Board of Trustees earlier this fall, all Seminole State employees hired full-time prior to October 1, 2009 will receive a special one-time award of $500 this month. This award will be included in your December 22, 2009 paycheck as a separate item entitled "Lump Sum Payment." Please contact the Human Resources Office (x2101) if you have any questions regarding this $500 award.

Graduations

Five graduation ceremonies will be held throughout this month on the Sanford / Lake Mary Campus. The Fire Science / EMS Program will hold its Minimum Standards Certificate Ceremony on Thursday, Dec. 10 at 7 p. m. in the Fine Arts Concert Hall. The graduating class of the Practical Nursing Program will hold a Pinning Ceremony on Tuesday, Dec. 15 at 2 p.m. in the gymnasium. The Criminal Justice Graduation will take place on Wednesday, Dec. 16 at 7 p.m. in the gymnasium. The GED Graduation will be held on Thursday, Dec. 17 at 7:30 in the gymnasium. Finally, the College Commencement ceremony will begin at 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 18 in the gymnasium.

Winter Break

Wednesday, December 16 is the last faculty work day of the Fall 2009 Term and Tuesday, December 22 is the last work day for most non-instructional Seminole State employees. On Monday, Jan. 4th, all College offices will reopen and faculty will report for the Spring 2010 Term. We wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season.

New Logo For Seminole State

On Nov. 16, the Board of Trustees voted for the "shield" concept as their preference for a new logo design to accompany our College's name change. However, the Board also asked for additional design adjustments before making a final decision on the logo at the next Board of Trustees meeting on January 25, 2010. Because of this newly extended time frame before a new logo is available, there is a temporary Seminole State logo of "type only" -- with no icon -- which may be used in special circumstances for a temporary, short supply of printed materials needed prior to Jan. 25. This temporary "type-only" logo may be obtained from the College Relations and Marketing department. However, for more permanent materials such as signs, shirts, name tags, business cards, etc., please wait until after final logo approval is received in January.

S/LM Road Construction Completion

All construction on the roundabout, the loop road, and parking lots throughout the Sanford / Lake Mary Campus will be completed when the College reopens after the Winter Break on Monday, Jan. 4th. Please look for detailed maps of new parking lot configurations on the Seminole State website by mid-December. Some minor landscaping improvements across the Campus will continue throughout the Spring Term.

Thank You For Supporting The 2009 "Blue & Gold" Campaign

This year's "Blue & Gold Circle" campaign to raise funds that assist Seminole State students and academic programs was a great success. Thanks to the generosity of so many College faculty and staff, this year's campaign totaled over $75,000 ... more than a 10% increase over last year's campaign. Thank you to all who contributed, and to the many Seminole State constituents who gave of their time and talents to encourage participation in this year's campaign.
