First Wednesday Update: August 6, 2008Career Service Awards for 2008Once again, two of SCC's full-time career service employees will receive $1,250 awards (minus applicable taxes) for excellence, courtesy of the SCC Foundation. These two awards will be presented in a surprise announcement during the Collegewide Convocation on October 7, 2008. Attached are the nomination form and instructions on how to nominate an SCC career service employee for this year's awards. Employees may nominate themselves or another employee. Complete application packages must be submitted to the Foundation Office on the Sanford/Lake Mary Campus, in Room A204J, no later than noon on Friday, August 29. Applications will be reviewed by a Career Service Review Committee of the CPEC, and the final selection will be made by members of the Foundation Board of Directors prior to October 7. Pathfinder Award NominationsNominations are now being accepted for the 2008 SCC Pathfinder Awards; a $2,000 Pathfinder Award is given annually to recognize one SCC employee, and a $2,000 Pathfinder Award is given annually to one SCC department that has demonstrated exemplary service to the College over the last year or so. The individual Pathfinder recipient will receive a $2,000 cash award (minus applicable taxes) to spend as he or she pleases. Any SCC employee employed over one year may be nominated for this award. The $2,000 awarded to the department receiving the Pathfinder Award may be spent on department equipment or a department activity based upon parameters to be determined by the SCC Foundation, which is providing the funds for this award. To make a nomination for these awards, submit the name of the individual or department together with the reasons for the nomination (in less than 500 words) to Yolanda Williams via e-mail by Friday, September 5, 2008. The 2008 Pathfinder Awards Selection Committee will then meet to select the individual and department to be honored in a surprise announcement during the Collegewide Convocation celebration on October 7th. Parking on the Sanford/Lake Mary CampusThe SCC-UCF University Partnership Center project is well under way, with the site now fully enclosed by a construction fence. To regain some of the Campus parking spots lost due to construction, plans now call for three lighted grassy parking lots to be located (1) east of the Gym, (2) north of the gym beyond the tennis courts, and (3) north of the Automotive Training Center. These temporary lots should be in place in advance of the start of classes on August 25. During the first week of the Fall Term, several SCC employees will also be situated around the Campus at certain times to direct the flow of traffic, as well as assist students and employees with the temporary parking arrangements. Visit the Sanford/Lake Mary Campus' home page for the latest traffic and parking updates. SCC Board of TrusteesAt their July 21 meeting, SCC's District Board of Trustees re-elected Chris Dorworth as chairman and Lisa Greer as vice-chair. The Board also has decided to hold future meetings on the third Monday of each month at 3:30 p.m. Meetings will rotate among various SCC sites throughout the upcoming year. Visit SCC's District Board of Trustees' home page for the latest list of Board meeting locations. |
